Feelin' Groovy

Yeah, so I felt a little better over the past few days, you might think I was sick or somthing, you'd be wrong. I was just feeling a little under the weather and all round sorry for myself... but I think I am over the worst of it now and Im feelin' groovy!

I was down at the new house today doing a little work, cleaning up etc... I brought some money (200) to buy some stuff that I want like some nice counter top and such for building my new desk (which will be over 10 feet long) but as it turned out nobody else in my family had any money with them so I ended up buying everyone's dinner and all the shopping, so I have 100 left and a few cheap clothes (35 for some slippers, a superman shirt, and a fleece jumper/jacket thing, its not too bad!). So tomorrow, I am going to go into town and treat myself with some _PROPER_ stuff, some new toiletries, some nice jeans, and of course material for my latest project, now I am after going off topic. Anyway, so I was down at the new house doing a little bit of work, and it just kinda clicked... this is MY new house... this time, stuff gets done my way... and it felt good. I love fire, and we are in the middle of nowhere with no trash/rubbish service so we incinerate/recycle all our waste, and today, I got to burn everything the old owner left behind, seemingly erasing the passage of time, and it was nice. Funny how fire allways cheers me up.

I have started designing the new network for the house, got 100m of CAT5-E cable, a WRT54G, two 133mhz machines, three 200mhz machines, two 750mhz machines, a semi-broken 1GHz machine, an 8 port switch/hub, and whatever my brother has, I think it's a 600mhz laptop and an Athelon 1600 desktop, but Im not sure. Thats what we have so far, Addidionally there will be two new Micro ATX machines functioning as Multimedia stations (PVR, TV-OUT, Surround Sound etc...) and also, I might build a nice new desktop system. So this is what I figure, I will keep the router in my room, I will run some CAT5-E out to the garrage, and some out to the offices, I will also be running some into the attic (A perfect server house), the router and the hub will be in a home made wiring/server closet, I will also be trying to get my hands on a 16-24 port 3Com switch and a patch pannel (Thanks Steve :) ) to fit in there, I know its overkill but it allows for expansion plus it makes me look l33t :). I figure the router will be 192.168.1.1, so I will use 192.168.1.1** for all the stupid machines, like the family one, my dads one for work, and any other ones that arent in my room. I will use 192.168.2.* for all the machines in the office, I dont know how many there will be, but there will be at least 3 computers and a networked printer (One will be a backup server for nightly backups, it will also transfer to the MAIN server in my room), then 192.168.3.1 to 192.168.3.99 (lots of room) for whatever I have in my room, and 192.168.3.1** for all the servers besides the one in the office, you might say, "thats a fuckin' weird setup", and your probibly right, but I dont care, I am doing it this way because I am trying to simulate a company network. I dont currently know what type of internet connection I have, hopefully it will be DSL (we dont have a phone line there, so we have to use special radio links to the telco exchange) if its supported, otherwise we will have to get satelite or wireless (from ADSLnow.com) which is quite expensive, either way, we wont be getting dialup. Thats all on that subject!

I built that server I was talking about in my last blog and unfortunately the last HDD I had to spare wasn't working properly so although its built, its not functional.

I had a GHD (Good Hair Day) today for the first time in like, forever... just thought I would throw that in there.

I was in supermacs today (an Irish fast food place) and my dad sprung a surprise on me! he casually said that he was reading about the computer industry in the newspapers yesterday and how professionals are in high demand, and the number of students taking computer cources in Ireland is deminishing, and that in a few years there wont be enough professionals, and then I pointed out that specialising in an area of networking, and also being a capible IT admin is the best tactic, then he said "what was that course you were talking about?" and I said the CCNA, but that it was really expensive etc... and he just said "well, I dont mind paying for it if you want to do it" and I was like... WTF? you know its like 1000 to 2000? and he just sat there as if to say, "yeah, so?". Long story short, next summer I will be out of school perminantly, and I will be getting the CCNA course paid for for me! YAY!

Thats about all I have to blog about, sorry its so short, I couldn't think of anything else to say :)

Current Project:
A home built (not home made) Negative Ion Generator for my new room, you can find the info here if your interested, I'm going to pick it up tomorrow when I go into town. Its benefits are three fold, I suffer with hay fever, it reduces the polin count, my machines will be in my room, it causes dust to fall from the air, and it somehow releives stress, which I will have a lot of from September onwards for my final year in school, afterwards I will have possibly the hardest and biggest exam I will ever have to take, I will pretty much have to recall six years worth of learning in various two hour exams.

Current Mood: I was happy untill I started thinking about the exams, oh well :)

Thanks for reading!
