Field Placement

Its so exciting that this year I finally get to do my field placement. Which means I am only a year away from graduating college. Which also means that I have to think about what I'm going to do when I graduate. I'll push that aside for now.
I started my field placement this semester in August at a home/shelter for runaway/homeless youth who may need a respite from home or just a safe place to stay for two weeks. The facility is a great concept, I just wish there were more of them in the city, because right now the two places like it are full. It is so nice to finally be able to work with teenagers and put into practice what I'm learning in my classes. I get to lead groups with the youth every week, and help them out in any other way I can.
The only frustrating part is that they are only able to stay for 2 weeks at a time and I'm only there twice a week so I as soon as I really feel like I'm getting to know them they are gone. Its definitely hard to not get too attached to the kids either, because they all just need so much love and support. Some of their stories break my heart, but some of them are also a handful because they are in their teenage years and haven't had a whole lot of people help them or be on their sides.
Anyways, so far it has been a pretty good semester, just a lot of hours of work, field placement and school.
