Excercise... Geeks

I think a good oxymoron is an athletic geek. I've heard of them, even met 1 or 2. Now, first of all, I think of a geek as a "computer geek" - or a "techie" sort of person. Many times, this type of person is heavy set, and spends the majority of their time on their ass. I'll have to say, I often times feel guilty about it, and am always trying to muster up the ambition to excercise. It's funny, actually - I always tend to think that people are in control of their lives. I tend to have problems with medication-treated depression and things like that, though I'm starting to see a place for that sort of thing.

At any rate, for a person that thinks that way, I have trouble conquering simple laziness. It's amazing - for a good month and 1/2, I was getting up early in the morning, going to a gym at the local High School, working out for about 30 - 45 minutes, then heading off to work. I was on a great routine. Then I had to stop for a week or two, as the High School was finishing some remodeling in that area, and that was the end. I even ran one summer for about 3 weeks straight, but as soon as I left town for vacation, I never ran again.

It just seems like such an easy thing - get off my ass, spend as little as 1/2 hour excercising every day. Why is it so hard then? I don't know. It just seems like a pain in the ass. I know if I do it for about a week or two, I'll be in the routine, and won't have a problem. And if I make it past one break or vacation, and continue after my return, I think I'll do better the 2nd break / vacation. It's just that first step. Damn it all laziness!

So, now I'm all psyched to get up and start excercising again, but I'm going on a vacation here in about 2 1/2 weeks. I'll be out of town, visiting my father, and would probably not excercise, so what makes me think I'll continue when I get back? I should start when I get back, then I won't have a vacation to fight through when I get back.

WOW - another page of useless bantering. I'm sorry if you wasted time reading this.

I had a quick afterthought - I think if a friend did the same thing, and I could meet them at the gym every morning, it'd be easier. We could, you know, encourage each other that way. Hrmm - the Buddy System is the key, here. Yes, the Buddy System.
