It was time for an upgrade. We wanted to take the JEMDiary experience to the next level. To do this, we needed to re-code the entire website. Along the way, we decided to move the site's design into a newer design.
Most things are still the same - you haven't lost anything! All your diary entries are still here - your username and password are the same. There are things that changed, however. Check out the Change Log for more.
Well you might have noticed that alot of sites are going to 2.0 and to AJAX frameworks, etc. Well, turns out, we missed the 2.0 buzz... this is actually the THIRD version of JEMDiary. The very first version was a one member only diary hosted at the old "hotba" website.
Back in 2001, the hotba website was the very first host of the online diary. Online Diaries were in their infancy at that point - and so was the owner. Literally, I was eating half a package of ramen noodles and a half can of peas or beans for breakfast, lunch, and dinner when I moved out. I was going to university full time for computer science and working full time at a local ISP. Combined with rent, and the cost of hosting a website back in the day, food was short, and development time was even shorter!
My friend Erica was commenting about her diary on one of the main diary websites at that time - and how it didn't match her needs. She told me about it and I decided to throw together a website for her to use as her online diary. Friends of mine at that time that supported me also were Jen and Michelle. Hence, the JEM portion was born. It took me a couple months, but I made a site for Erica. I started my own diary and migrated it onto there too. Fun side note: Erica's account actually is the FIRST account ever to exist!
I worked full time at the local ISP for about 5 years. Then, I moved on to a fulltime programming job in a different part of the state. With this came extra money and extra time. I finally took on the process of rewriting the website to its current form, version 3.0. I look forward to all of the new changes (and looking back at how out of date this about section is!) in the upcoming years.
